Pt 5 If the series where to start anywhere, this would be an amazing point in her career to begin… achieving the highest level of fame, then pushing the envelope further than people could handle, then in turn being shamed and discarded and her evolution and tenacity to recover, triumphantly when she had been completely written off. The struggle. The hurt. The hunger. Hopefully she can get out of her own way and trust someone with her vision as she has quite “a tale to tell”. Live to tell would be a great title

Pt 4 It would be cool if she could really open up about her experience - her insecurity regarding acting and how that’s been a true disappointment, rather than who she wants to portray herself as. Vulnerability is what I’m getting at. I was watching a video of her discussing the book. It was sad to see her stumble through her explanation. It was surprising that she could candidly say the truth. The book was a tale of a character she played, exploring provocative sexual tableaus and taboos. (All with genius lighting, photography and ground breaking graphic design) Madonna clumsily explained how it was her but not her and it was tongue and cheak and blah blah blah. To me that cheapened what I consider a, way ahead of its time masterpiece.

Pt 3 I think establishing the dynamics of her childhood would be essential to her story and determination. I also hope someone can sway her out of what I see as re-visionist history. She made comments about always wanting to be a trailblazer for women etc. While I do believe this was realized later in her career, her early days were about the pursuit of fame in whatever form got her there. The mtv virgin performance was transcendent and guided her to push people’s buttons, but it wasn’t really till, at least Express yourself that she was making a clear statement that she was in charge and bending gender norms. Papa don’t preach was, in my opinion when she was still simply using provocation to dominate the airwaves.

Pt 2 I think the Netflix series format is much better fit. I strongly disagree with whoever suggested the series start out with her being dropped off in Times Square. The public knows this story, and it’s not only old news but manufactured by Madonna. That’s where I see the problem with the concept all together. Rarely are biopics well received when the subject is involved. I love Madonna but one this she is not is subjective about herself. Can she tell her real story? Madonna a super controlling Leo would not just hop on a plane with $35 and a dream. She had some money saved, contacts through family friends in NY and a plan. I’m not saying she didn’t struggle, she did but wouldn’t you rather hear THAT story.

pt.1 This was a really thought provoking episode. Re: new music & collaboration with Stuart. I can imagine them choosing an era of music to tell a cohesive story. I don’t imagine another American Life, I think it will be more about redemption, politics in the form of bad things must happen to provoke positive change, can’t have light without darkness and appreciation for life/family. Excited about this project. The biopic: to me, the script not being optioned is very simple. She was selling a story she’s already told. Based on the info that was released it documented her rise to fame with Blond ambition as the crescendo. Truth or dare covered BA so in depth, why would a studio wanna take a risk on a self produced and directed movie on a subject matter that’s been covered with a risky partner?
